Year: 2007
Length: 13m
Format: super 16mm

Synopsis:
Nova, 6, is reluctant to take a road trip with her parents, after she has a frightening dream about an evil dragon. Past events and dreams of warning haunt Nova during the trip, but it’s not until the car crashes into a tree, that her fantastical journey begins. Ending up in a sort of Limbo, Nova must decide whether to trust the help of various guardians as she navigates through this strange and fascinating new world, where she ultimately must make the decision to move on with her parents in death, or to return to the world of the living.

“Whirlybird” is a story based in magical realism and set in the open landscape of the Midwest. Moving between space and time, the film reveals itself as one remembers a dream…piece by piece, and never in a specific order.
